Samuel J Shine founded the award winning Samco innovative agricultural company in 1997 here in Adare. Since then this family run business, which is a significant employer in the region, with over 60 employees, has expanded its SAMCO System, exporting to over 25 countries from their new 35,000 square foot manufacturing facility outside Adare village.
Their annual turnover is €19 million, 80% of turnover coming from sales of their mulch film and 20% from machinery sales.
SAMCO has recently been honoured by Enterprise Ireland, taking home the Innovation Arena Champion Award at the National Ploughing Championship. It’s hoped Samco’s
system using this Bio Degradable film will allow earlier harvesting and entry to the market where growers will then have a greater say on the prices which can be charged to wholesalers.
“Samco company is going from strength to strength every year and this is due to strong Management and dedicated staff. A lot of money has been invested over the last four years in our new factory and staff training, which will stand to the future of the company.
We invested in three new Bio Film extruders here in Adare, which run 24/7 to keep up with demand; these extruders are 25 % powered by 386 solar panels mounted on the roof of the
factory and this reduces our reliant on fossil fuel. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff in Samco for there dedicated work keeping all aspects of the business running every day”. Samuel Shine.
About the Samco system: Many crops worldwide are grown using the SAMCO System, such as Maize / Corn, Maize Grain, Sunflowers, Sorghum, Soya, Beet, Rice and many types of
vegetables. The company offers advise through their well-educated and experienced agronomy staff on the most suitable types of biodegradable mulch film to be used for each crop, leading to higher and better-quality maize yield per acre for growers.
SAMCO designed and built its first complete three in one maize planter in 1997: it sows seed, sprays and puts down film. This operation protects the young plants from late frost, increases the soil temperature and thereby maximises yield per hectare.
