Ryder Cup Way in Adare among the projects to secure government support

JUST under €600,000 has been allocated to walkways in Limerick with more than half of the money going towards the development of an eco trail for Adare.

The Ryder Cup Way will be in Manor Fields, Adare and it’s been allocated €399,983 in funding under the latest round of Our Rural Future funding.

The money will be used to develop an accessible recreational eco trail, illuminated with low level LED lighting.

It will weave its way through woodland, alongside hedgerows and will be further planted with native species trees, nesting and bug boxes, as well as having biodiversity ponds, solar PV interpretative station, climate information stations and picnic areas.

€195,208 has also been ring fenced for a trail between Raheenagh and Ashford to link up with Killeedy Eco Park and the established Broadford Ashford trails network.

In announcing the funding, Minister Heather Humphreys said: “The times of lockdowns are thankfully behind us but those times gave us all an appreciation of what our stunning outdoors had to offer us for our mental and physical wellbeing.

The two Limerick projects are among 69 projects getting national funding of €16 million for outdoor projects.

It’s part of wider investment in outdoor tourism.

“Our world-class outdoor amenities continue to make rural Ireland the place to be for adventure tourists,” she continued.
