The Mungret native founded the luxury sustainable fashion brand, Aoife McNamara, in 2019 and opened her flagship store in Adare the following year.
At just 27 years old, Aoife has already created a brand that is known both nationally and internationally for creating unique garments inspired by nature, to protect nature.
The designer said she was “honoured” to receive the award although at first she thought the nomination was a prank!
“I was so surprised when I got the call, I thought it was a joke! But it was a lovely surprise.
“I am a really proud Limerick lady and it is an honour to represent the city and county in fashion design,” she said.
After securing an Honours degree from Limerick School of Art & Design, and gaining industry experience in Paris and New York, Aoife was determined to create unique Irish garments that were at peace with the planet.
The brand values creativity and beauty, people and planet, quality over quantity. It aims to create beauty, not destroy it.
Aoife prides herself on supporting local suppliers and artists and her store in Adare also serves as an innovative hub for both designers and creatives alike, so you can browse through Aoife’s dreamy designs as well as diverse local Irish art.
At the award presentation, Aoife shared the exciting news that she will soon be taking the brand to the Big Apple and showcasing her designs during New York Fashion Week in September.
The Clean Coasts Ambassador is taking the brand stateside following a successful but “intense” three month pop-up in Kildare Village.
Aoife said: “We are really excited to share our journey, especially with young designers.
“It is a nice story to share but it hasn’t been easy to get to this point. We have a lot of work to do before September but it is very exciting”.
The Limerick Person of the Month award is sponsored by the Limerick Leader, media agency Southern, and the Clayton Hotel.
