A memorial to the 22 men from Adare who died in World War 1 was unveiled last Saturday at St. Nicholas new cemetery. The memorial contains the names of the men, their regiment, age at time of death and their burial site. All details are also printed in braille. The memorial ceremony was MC’ed by Liam Nolan, who had carried out the research on the men and was led by Rev. Liz Beasley, the Church of Ireland rector. The playing of the last post by a bugle, followed by a minute’s silence, added a poignant note to what was a moving occasion, attended by some of the relatives of the men. Pictured are Liam Nolan, Joe McNulty, Oliver Griffin and Francis O’Connor who were all officers in the Royal Munster Fusiliers Association.
