Bing Crosby sang about a White Christmas all those years ago, but this year Adare is planning to go Green for the festive season.
The annual lighting of the Christmas tree and visit from Santa Claus will take place this Sunday 1st December at 6pm. The Annual Christmas Market will also serve as part of this year’s festivities and will be in the Hall from 12 to 5pm. Also this year a free mug of hot punch will be given out to those who bring their own mugs. “Every year hundreds of insulated mugs are used at this event and are then discarded” said local woman Valarie Shine O’Kelly.
“So this year we are doing our bit for the environment…so no mug no punch”, she added. The Tree has become an iconic symbol of the season in the Village and the tradition is in its 72nd year. “This is our way of giving something back to the community of Adare and is designed around enhancing the local community spirit” said Paudie Griffin, Chairman of the Adare Village Hall. “We especially encourage any newcomers to the village to come along”, he said.
